< Epik High > Maps Their Soul on CNN Talk Asia

(SEOUL KR) : Fresh from their stellar K-Pop Night showcase at MIDEM 2010 in Cannes, France, Korean hip-hop trailblazers Epik High kicked off the Lunar New Year by sneaking out of their Seoul recording studios to chill and chat with CNN Talk Asia.

지난 달 26일 칸 프랑스에서 열렸던 세계 최대의 음악 축제인 미뎀(MIDEM 2010)에 한국 대표로 참가했던 힙합전사 에픽하이가 CNN의 ‘토크 아시아 (Talk Asia)’와 경인년 구정을 함께 보냈다.

Broadcast to nearly 280 million people worldwide, CNN Talk Asia is a 30 minute documentary-style, interview-based show which profiles leading newsmakers in politics, business, arts, entertainment, and sports. Hosted by the award-winning anchor Anjali Rao, CNN Talk Asia has spotlighted global luminaries such as former President Bill Clinton, fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld, dancefloor diva Lady Gaga, martial arts maestro Jacky Chan, and tennis legend Roger Federer.

전세계의 약 2억8천만 명의 시청자들에게 방송되는 뉴스방송 CNN의 대표적인 다큐멘터리 인터뷰 프로그램인 ‘토크 아시아 (Talk Asia)’는 정치, 경제, 문화, 연예, 스포츠 등 각 분야에서 이슈가 되고 있는 최고의 글로벌 리더들을 유명앵커 안잘리 라오 (Anjali Rao)가 취재하고 진행하는 프로그램으로써 클린턴 전(前) 미국대통령, 세계적인 패션디자이너 칼 라거펠트, 댄스음악의 디바 레이디 가가, 홍콩 액션배우 성룡, 그리고 ‘테니스 황제’ 로저 페더러 등 세계적인 유명인사들을 인터뷰 해왔다.

As Korean pop culture continues to make waves around the world, Epik High joins an elite group of local icons who have been featured on the international show. Following in the footsteps of footballer Park Ji-Sung, singer Rain, and actor Lee Byung-Hun, Epik High has been tapped to be the first Korean band ever to appear on CNN Talk Asia.

전 세계적으로 한류 열풍이 불고 있는 가운데 에픽하이는 축구선수 박지성, 가수 비, 영화배우 이병헌을 이어 한국밴드로써는 처음으로 CNN 토크 아시아에 출연한다.

According to Epik High’s frontman, Tablo - “I found it very cool that CNN had a keen interest in the depth and diversity of the Korean music scene -- it’s a major honor for us to represent Korean hip-hop on such a huge worldwide stage.”

The recent recipient of the MIAK Golden Disk Award for Best Korean Hip-Hop/Rap Artist, Epik High emerged as one of Korea’s biggest breakthrough acts of 2009 as they became the first K-Pop act to sell-out a USA concert tour (魂 Map the Soul), debut an album in the top 5 of the iTunes USA Electronic chart (Remixing the Human Soul), and land two albums simultaneously in the top 100 of the iTunes USA Hip-Hop/Rap chart ([e]nergy/[e]motion).



최근 MIAK 골든디스크 시상식에서 힙합상을 수상한 에픽하이는 2009년 해외에서 주목 받었던 한국 아티스트들중 하나로써 지난해 ‘맵 더 소울’ 미국 투어 공연이 매진되는 등 현지의 이례적인 반응으로 눈길을 모은 바가 있고, 미국 아이튠스 차트에서 ‘리믹싱 더 휴먼 소울 (Remixing the Human Soul)’ 앨범이 일렉트로닉음악 분야의 5위를 차지하였고, ‘[e]nergy/[e]motion] 앨범들이 함께 힙합음악 분야의 상위 100위안에 진입하는 쾌거를 거둔 바가 있다.



Currently in the midst of mixing down their highly anticipated new album, ‘Epilogue’, Epik High took time out to share their thoughts on their struggles, successes, and aspirations with CNN Talk Asia.

새로운 앨범 ‘에필로그 (Epilogue)’ 녹음 작업중인 에픽하이는 이번CNN 토크 아시아 인터뷰를 통해 그들이 겪었던 고난과 성공 그리고 앞으로의 포부 등을 이야기 한다.
